Masonry Fireplace Doors

Free Shipping, Easy Installation, No Hassle Returns

Fireplace doors for your masonry fireplace can help your home’s energy efficiency by keeping the warm air in and the cold air out. Good news is that masonry fireplaces are made of individual bricks which absorb the heat better than metal prefab fireboxes. This means when you choose your doors, you do not have to worry about ventilation and cooling like you do on a prefab firebox. It also means you can use an overlap fit installation which gives you more flexibility in sizes and pricing.

Measuring Your Masonry Fireplace
How to Install a Masonry Fireplace Door

Premade or Custom?

Making sure you get the right sized door for your fireplace is important.  Premade masonry doors come in an overlap fit and are made in a few general sizes.  These doors are quick shipped and economically priced. Premade doors can be bulky due to the larger sizes manufacturers make to accommodate a larger number of fireplaces.  Custom doors are made to fit your fireplace based on the measurements you provide.  These doors might be a little more expensive but are worth the extra cost since they look elegant with a cleaner looking fit.  You also have the choice of premium finishes and types of glass that enhance your home’s decor.  Be sure to ask if the doors come with a mesh curtain option.

Overlap Fit or Inside Fit?

You have a choice of an inside fitting masonry door or an outside or overlap fit.  Depending on which you prefer, both styles will enhance the look of your fireplace.  If your fireplace is made of a material like rock or stone with jagged. rough edges, you probably want to go with an inside fitted door.  This is because the outside fit  door is mounted to the fireplace surface and will not sit flush.  Outside fit doors work better on materials such as smooth brick, marble, or tile.  Inside fit doors are flush with the firebox opening.  If you’re not sure if your brick’s surface is smooth enough for outside fit doors, inside fit would be a better option..

Steel vs Aluminum Masonry Doors

Masonry Doors are typically constructed out of either aluminum or steel.  Aluminum is less expensive, rust free,  and comes in a variety of powder coated and anodized finishes.  Aluminum, budget priced doors can be a great value since some come with extra features like screen vents.  Steel fireplace doors tend to be more expensive since steel is  a heavier material. These sturdy doors also come in a variety of styles and finishes are are sure to last for many years.

Bi-Fold or Cabinet Style

Masonry glass doors come in bi-fold, consisting of four glass panels or cabinet style with two glass panels.  Typically these panels are clear glass but some doors come in tinted shades of bronze or gray.  This tint helps hide a soot stained firebox or ashes from a previous fire.  All glass is tempered for safety purposes.

Shop Masonry Doors by Price

Masonry doors start at around $350 and can run up as high as $2000. There are some great values at this opening price point of $350 which includes screen vents and basic door. It is a great value for a basic fireplace door.

Removing, Measuring, and Installation of Masonry Doors:

Most masonry doors are designed to be an outside overlap fit which means it fits against the surround of your fireplace. More expensive doors can be made as an inside fit installation which gives you a cleaner look.

The cheaper doors come in basically three sizes small medium and large which means that the overlap typically is a lot greater then on doors they come in more sizes or a custom made door. A door that is made closer to the opening size of your fireplace means that you will not have a bigger bulkier door on your heart. A 1 inch overlap is better than a 6 inch overlap. But that is how manufacturers can keep the price down on lower indoors by only making three standard sizes. Lower end doors also do not offer as many options for customization as higher end doors. Premium doors allow you to totally match that color and Decor of your room. You may choose from premium paint finishes, glass door styles, and mesh screens.
