Superior Fireplace Doors FAQ

Look for a model number on a metal plate inside your firebox opening. The model number usually is usually a combination of letters and numbers. Then measure the length and width of your firebox opening. We have some doors in stock that could fit your Superior fireplace or we can build a custom door for you.

How To Find Fireplace Model Number and Manufacturer

Superior bi-fold glass doors should stay open when there’s a fire burning.  A Superior zero clearance firebox with closed doors could reach a temperature approaching 10,000 degrees and fires can eventually start at temps as low as 200 degrees and cause closed doors shatter. Tempered glass is not meant to withstand temperatures that high.  Closing the doors after the fire is out keeps cold air from coming down the chimney into your home.  Keeping the cold air out and the warm air in helps save on heating costs during the cold winter months.

The answer is yes. But it may be worth it to purchase some budget- priced doors in a black frame be sure you get the look you want. A high temperature paint could be a good choice since the metal doors get warm from the fire.  Painting Superior fireplace doors could be a good option if you have outdated brass doors that need a makeover.

Simply measure the length and width of your Superior firebox opening. Make sure you only measure the firebox opening not including any vents on the top or sides.  If you could send us a picture of the tape measure going across the firebox opening horizontally and another picture showing the tape measure vertically, we can see the exact dimensions of your firebox and help you order a door to perfectly fit your Superior fireplace. Here is a great video that will help you measure your Superior fireplace:

No. Superior fireplace doors do not come with fans or blowers. Blowers and fans can be purchased separately but are not a part of the Superior door unit.  A quick internet search can give you more information about how Superior fireplaces work with fans and blower equipment.

No. Majestic fireplace doors do not come with vents and damper controls. Vents and damper controls are sometimes found on masonry doors but not prefab Superior fireplace doors.  Masonry doors are for a firebox made of concrete, brick or stone whereas a prefab firebox is made of metal.

No. There are not Superior doors made specially for gas fireplaces. All prefab Superior fireplace doors are made to be used either with gas logs or to burn real wood but the doors MUST remain open while the fire is burning.

Yes, Superior fireplace doors come with screens but the screens need to be ordered separately as an addition to your order. These screens can be either replacement mesh curtains that attach to a rod in your firebox or actual mesh doors that attach to the fireplace door frame and open like cabinet doors. The replacement mesh curtains and mesh doors can keep sparks from popping out of the fireplace or be used just to add a decorative look to the fireplace. We have lots of good information here.

Removing Superior fireplace doors and frames is usually an easy process only requiring a screwdriver. The Superior fireplace doors are attached on the sides by brackets and can easily be taken off the firebox opening.  The hanging mesh curtain can remain in place even after removing the doors.  If you have a mesh screen for your Superior fireplace, it is attached behind the glass doors so you can remove the glass doors and leave the screen in place.

Superior fireplace doors cannot be sealed. There are specific codes that require proper ventilation in all Superior fireplaces so you will find that there are very small gaps around the edges of the doors and frame. Because of these codes, Superior fireplace doors are not airtight.  But the gaps surrounding the Superior fireplace doors are small enough so that just that a minimal amount of air can get through so it should not greatly affect the overall temperature in your home.

How To Find Fireplace Model Number and Manufacturer

1. Determine your manufacturer & model number.

Prefab fireplaces will typically have a metal plate on the front or just inside the firebox. This plate tells you which brand you fireplace is, as well as the specific model number. Many fireplaces also have the manufacturer logo on the front plate of the firebox.
