Masonry Fireplace Doors

PREMADE VS. CUSTOM

Making sure you get the right sized door for your fireplace is important.  Pre-built masonry doors come in an overlap fit and are made in a few general sizes.  These doors are quick shipped and economically priced. Premade doors can be bulky due to the larger sizes manufacturers make to accommodate a larger number of fireplaces. Custom doors are made to fit your fireplace based on the measurements you provide.  These doors might be a little more expensive but are worth the extra cost since they look elegant with a cleaner looking fit.  You also have the choice of premium finishes and types of glass that enhance your home’s decor.

OVERLAP VS. INSIDE FIT

You have a choice of an inside fitting masonry door or an outside or overlap fit.  Depending on which you prefer, both styles will enhance the look of your fireplace.  If your fireplace is made of a material like rock or stone with jagged. rough edges, you probably want to go with an inside fitted door.  This is because the outside fit  door is mounted to the fireplace surface and will not sit flush.  Outside fit doors work better on materials such as smooth brick, marble, or tile.  Inside fit doors are flush with the firebox opening.  If you’re not sure if your brick’s surface is smooth enough for outside fit doors, inside fit would be a better option.

STEEL VS. ALUMINUM

Masonry Doors are typically constructed out of either aluminum or steel.  Aluminum is less expensive, rust free,  and comes in a variety of powder coated and anodized finishes.  Aluminum, budget priced doors can be a great value since some come with extra features like screen vents.  Steel fireplace doors tend to be more expensive since steel is  a heavier material. These sturdy doors also come in a variety of styles and finishes are are sure to last for many years.

CLEAR VS. TINTED GLASS

Many of our fireplace doors come in a tinted glass option. Tinted glass helps to hide your firebox after a fire. Tinted glass is a great way to make leftover ashes less noticeable.

OUR RECOMMENDATION

If you burn real wood, tinted glass is a great choice to hide the ashes and soot after a fire. If you have a beautiful set of gas logs, clear glass shows them off when they aren’t burning. Got a personal preference? Go with that! It’s totally up to you.

MESH CURTAINS

Mesh curtains are the most affordable spark guard option. Most of the fireplace doors on our website come with the option to add a mesh curtain or even have them arrive pre-installed. While sturdy, hanging mesh curtains aren’t secured at the bottom of your fireplace and may not prevent logs from rolling out of your firebox if you’re burning real wood.

MESH DOORS

Mesh doors are built into the frame of your fireplace door. If you burn real wood, mesh doors are the best option for preventing logs from rolling out of your firebox. Unlike fireplace doors, mesh doors can be kept closed while a fire is burning. Since vent-free fireplaces reach very high temperatures, they can often discolor fireplace doors, even if they are open. If you have a ventless fireplace, we recommend using mesh doors in place of fireplace doors.

MESH SCREENS

Mesh screens are placed in front of the firebox on the hearth, and can be used with any fireplace. While they take up more space in front of the fireplace, they also provide more clearance to protect pets and small children. Fireplace screens come in a variety of styles and often feature artistic paneling/metalwork that make for a good decorative piece. Fireplace screens are not secured to anything and therefore may topple over with enough force.
